Farewell, Sir Terry Pratchett

March 12, 2015 was a sad day for me and many others. The world said goodbye to Sir Terry Pratchett, the inventor and genius behind the Discworld series and many other wonderful books. Having written over seventy books, he brought smiles and laughter to many people’s faces. I am convinced of that.

I know that many words have already been said about this remarkable man who faced the horror of Alzheimer in his last years, a disease he called the ’embuggerance’. Therefore I will keep this short, but I wanted to add my little something to the many tributes to this author who, together with Ray Bradbury, inspired me to write more and better.

“DON’T THINK OF IT AS DYING,” said Death. “JUST THINK OF IT AS LEAVING EARLY TO AVOID THE RUSH.”

Book review – The Shadowbearer

Title: The Shadowbearer
Author: Terry C. Simpson
Genre: Fantasy
Ratingstarhalf

shadowbearer

This book is the prequel to the Aegis of the Gods series. The centre character of the story, King General Stefan Dorn, is put into several difficult positions where decisions are made for him, and he doesn’t like many of those. Still, being who he is he tries to work through everything, even when the King Nerian the Lightbearer (who was as a father to him once) starts making less and less sense.

Terry Simpson wrote a fast-paced book with great imagery, well balanced characters and he shows us the struggle of a man who wants to hold on to his values and is forced to rethink just about everything that he has fought for. (And I just love the way of travel!)
