Book review – Wuthering Heights

wuthering heights

Impressed. That is the first word I have to say about Wuthering Heights, a novel that was first published in 1847. It’s still seen as one of the best works in English literature, and after reading it I can only agree (which doesn’t mean I have read the entire English literature, it’s just a great book).

It’s a story about love and passion, but both emotions confined and caged in the Victorian mind-set. A story about people who love each other so madly that it becomes an obsession and tries to step over the boundaries of death itself.

I think that most people have heard of the tale of Catherine and Heathcliff, also immortalised in the song “Wuthering Heights” by Kate Bush. Hearing the song however doesn’t give you the intense insight that the story by Emily Brontë has to tell. Being a slave to love can be devastating, not only for the lover or lovers, also for the people around them.

I acquired this e-book (epub version) from the Gutenberg Project.
